A powerful earthquake hit New Zealand towards the end of July 25. The tremors reached Auckland but no casualties or destruction were reported so far. In California, a lesser 2.1 quake struck near Ocotillo Wells the previous day. Heavy aftershocks keep hitting Venezuela after the country’s latest strong quakes. A large number of people are trapped under debris as rescue and medical teams work nonstop. PAHO says hospitals require immediate assistance to manage further emergencies.
