Tadej Pogačar secured the Stage 19 on July 24. The Slovenian rider struck hard on Alpe d'Huez and ended up far ahead. Only Richard Carapaz gave chase closely. Pogačar's group faced unwell team riders earlier in the stage but he kept strong. His lead widened on the last climbs. Two days prior, Carapaz secured Stage 18 just close behind.
